The Kettle Falls Historical Center Needs Our Help

By: Rachel Haley

The Kettle Falls Historical Center is a community based nonprofit organization which preserves and interprets the heritage and cultures of the diverse peoples of the Kettle Falls. Their focus spans from prehistory to the creation of Lake Roosevelt. The volunteers serve the community and visitors through educational programs, exhibits, and the nurturing of cultural activities. The Kettle Falls Historical Center believes the history of the Kettle Falls area must be preserved for the generations to come. Kettle Falls Historical Center is proud to feature the “People of the Falls” interpretive exhibit, a journey into the past and celebration of the lives of the local indigenous tribes. In addition, the center also interprets other historical sites, including; St. Paul’s Mission, Hudsons Bay’s Fort Colvile, and U. S. Military’s Fort Colville.

The Historical Center has been serving our community for 39 years. At their first Board Meeting of the year, they went in and found water pouring from the ceiling. There was standing water and extensive destruction to the ceiling, walls, and displays. They volunteer of the organization are working hard at tryingto to salvage as many of the artifacts as possible but they cannot succeed on their own. They are asking for the communities help with the expense of cleaning up this disaster to save this Kettle Falls icon.

The Kettle Falls Historical Center is currently closed until further notice due to extensive water damage to the Center. At this time the 2023 Season will not be starting on May 15th as normally scheduled and will be a long and arduous journey back for the center! They are an “All Volunteer” organization and all are dedicated to bringing the Center back, better than ever, to serve our community and visitors alike. While they are currently working with their insurance company to determine where they stand, operating expenses will continue whether they are open or not. They have started a GoFundMe page where you can make a donation, if possible, they are asking for the communites help! You can visit their website, kettlefallshistoricalcenter.com, to find the GoFundMe link.
