Kami has had a very exciting spring and summer

Kami has had a very exciting spring and summer. This spring she participated with the Colville High School Track & Field team. Our athletic director, Megan Smedley and head coach, Leah Heideman found out about a competitive category for athletes with disabilities and Kami was able to compete in the Ambulatory Division during the District Meet where she qualified to compete at the state level. Kami took first place in all of her events at the state level and now holds the record for javelin. She also competed in the discus and 100 meter dash. With Kami’s participation in the ambulatory division her team took home the first place trophy in the combined division at the state level.

While Kami was at the state competition in Cheney, she was approached by athletes and coaches from ParaSport Spokane and asked if she would like to come and throw for their team. Kami spent the next 7 weeks traveling to Spokane 3 to 4 times a week to practice with the ParaSport Spokane Team. She also competed at various track & field meets around the Spokane area. With her throws, runs and long jump she qualified to go to the Junior National Championships in Denver.

At Junior National Championships Kami competed in six events; javelin, shot put, discus, long jump 100 meter and 200 meter runs. She placed first in all 6 events and now holds national records in at least 2 events, javelin and long jump.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank each and every person who pledged, sponsored, donated and cheered for Kami during this very exciting time. She is looking forward to continuing with ParaSport Spokane and possibly adding Power Lifting to next years list of events.
