Seniors Spruce Up Happy Dell for Better World Day

By Rainey Lince

Better World Day on Friday, May 6 was filled numerous projects throughout the Kettle Falls School District and community. KFHS Seniors spent their time at Happy Dell Park working hard on many projects.

The main project they collaborated on was distributing and spreading woodchips all around the play area. All the seniors worked together to move wheelbarrows of chips and spread the chips with rakes and brooms to get the majority of the area covered and level.

Then, students split off into different groups to work on a variety of other projects. Students painted concrete pillars, weeded and mulched the flowerbeds below the Information Center sign, sanded and painted picnic tables, power washed the bathrooms, picked up pine needles, painted the baseball bleachers, and picked up trash.

To show their support of the class of 2022 and let them know their community is behind them after a tumultuous high school experience, local businesses donated supplies and community members volunteered their time to host a barbeque for the senior class.

To say it was an eventful day would be an understatement. KFHS Seniors put the time and effort into their work. It was a consensus that participating in Better World Day gave students a greater respect for their town and the people who take care of it every day.

A special thanks to Dave Willey and the Kettle Falls city crew, Jesse Garrett, John Ridlington, Angie Monette-Beardall, Steve & Andrea Hedrick, Harvest Foods, Little Gallea, TJ’s, Backyard BBQ, and all the community members who supported KFHS students in their efforts to give back to the community.
