3rd Graders Make The World a Better Place

By Yale E. Edwards and Norman W. Stewart

The 3rd grade crew went to Rigley Lake on Friday, May 6 as part of Better World Day. Rigley Lake was chosen to pick up trash because the world-renown Canadian scratchboard artist and amphibian zoologist named Lori Dunn zoomed with the third graders of Kettle Falls Elementary and the students promised to pick up trash at a wetland.

Many of the third graders felt good about helping the environment. Ezra of Mrs. Edwards’ class said, “I felt good because it helps the environment and saves animals.”

Tripp and Jazlyn of Mrs. Thompson’s class said, “It felt really good to help the environment instead of just letting garbage sit around.”

Shamus of Mrs. Edwards’ class said I could not believe how much trash there was.

We found a cooler and hundreds of glass bottles.”

Deven of Mrs. Edwards’ class said, “I wanted to help. I want to take care of nature.”

Everyone in the third grade group felt it was right to pick up garbage even though they had to walk in pokey spots, icky places, and wet puddles to get garbage to help the environment. We got 10 or more bags of garbage from Rigley Lake even though the pieces of trash were hidden. Soon we hope everybody will help the environment.

Better World Day is a day of helping the environment and this school lets the students do that, the kindergarteners to the fourth graders of Kettle Falls Elementary got the chance to help make the world a better place.
